Face Serum

What is a Face Serum?

A face serum is a lightweight skin care product that provides high concentrations of active ingredients like antioxidants, hyaluronic acid, vitamins, and peptides, deep into the skin.

Serums typically exclude the heavier ingredients found in moisturizers such as mineral oil, thickeners, and lubricating agents. Because serums penetrate deep into the skin they are often used for treating skin imperfections like wrinkles, discoloration, acne scars, pigmentations, and to increase firmness and help heal and brighten the skin.

Does a Face Serum Replace a Daily Moisturizer?

A face serum, like our Geneva Naturals Advanced Vitamin C+E Serum, is not meant to replace your moisturizer. Rather, it is an additional step in your daily facial treatment routine. Pairing facial serums with moisturizers brings many benefits to the skin. While the serum delivers active ingredients, the moisturizer acts as a sealant and traps in moisture and protects the skin from irritants and pollutants. For a gentle facial moisturizer, we recommend Geneva Natural’s Advanced Anti-Aging Facial Moisturizer with SPF.

Applying a Face Serum

To apply, gently add tiny drops of serum, about the size of a pea, around the face. Keep in mind that serums are highly concentrated, so only a few drops are necessary. With clean hands, lightly blend the serum into the skin. After the serum has had a few minutes to absorb, add a gentle moisturizer.

What to Look For

When it comes to looking for ingredients in a facial serum, there are three main things to look for:

  1. Antioxidants. Vitamin C, vitamin E, green tea, and ferulic acid are all excellent antioxidants. Antioxidants reduce aging on a cellular level.
  2. Hydrators. Hyaluronic acid, jojoba oil, and peptides are a few examples of hydrators commonly found in face serums. Hydrators keep your skin soft and supple, proving an ageless look.
  3. Anti-inflammatories. Examples of naturally occurring anti-inflammatories found in face serums include: Aloe Vera, witch hazel, lavender, zinc, and chamomile. These anti-inflammatories help to reduce puffiness and redness and improve your skin’s ability to repair.
