What is a skin condition?

Your skin is the body's largest organ. It covers and protects your body from just about everything. Your skin:

  • Stores body fluids thus preventing dehydration
  • Keeps out harmful microbes thus preventing infections
  • Allows you to feel temperaters like heat, cold, as well as pain
  • Helps to you maintain an even body temperature
  • Creates vitamin D when the sun hit it

A skin condition is anything that agitates, clogs, or causes inflammation to the skin. Certain skin conditions may cause symptoms irritating like redness, swelling, burning, and itching. There are many things that can cause these symptoms, such as genes, irritants, a disease, weak immune system and most commonly allergies. Other symptoms can include but are not limited to rashes, hives and other skin conditions.  Another common skin problem, such as acne, can also have an affect your appearance. Two Most Common Skin Conditions

Acne

Acne is the common cause of skin breakouts and spots. Acne typically affects individuals aged between 12 and 25. However, some there are many cases where individuals older and younger are affected by this skin condition as well. Boys are more likely to be affected by acne than girls. Acne typically affects the face however many also see the effects of acne on the back, neck and chest. The severity of this condition can range from mild to severe. Approximately 8 in 10 teenagers develop some form of acne. Often times however it is mild. That being said it is worth noting that, about 3 in 10 teenagers have acne bad enough to where treatment is required in order to prevent acne scars. Sunburn
